Judy Perry

JudyPerryArt-18_edited.jpg

Judy revealed talent in her early teens with no instruction, by her drawings of animals and oil paintings of horses.  She is primarily self taught and studies art and visits galleries.  Judy has also participated in acrylic painting workshops by Andrea Warren in Ottawa, Monika Wright in Nova Scotia and on PEI, with Yvonne Soper, Henry Purdy, Linda Shaw-Packard, Mary R.M. Robertson and Ann Gallant.

She is an Islander who grew up on a farm in western PEI, which has attributed to her love of horses, trees and nature.  Judy resides in Stratford with her husband Glenn, and their dog, Freddy and works in Charlottetown.

Judy is an avid bird watcher and photographer.  While camping at Ben's Lake, Bellevue, PEI, she photographed this Red-Winged Blackbird as a reference for this painting.  This robin-sized songbird defends several nesting females by chasing larger birds such as hawks and eagles away and occasionally lands on their backs to peck at them.

Judy's contemporary abstract paintings burst with a rainbow of color and design.  She loves to use intense bold pigments in her exploration of how colors blend and layer.  Judy is intrigued by pouring fluid acrylic paint, onto the canvas and by tilting it, influencing the interweaving of colors, creating abstract organic shapes.   You are invited to discover what each contemporary piece reveals to you.  Judy is also exploring with a stringy medium that she drizzles, flings or guides onto the canvas, which resembles shimmering “stained glass” using several layers of transparent acrylic paint.

Judy uses archival high quality, permanent and light-fast acrylic paint, ink and mediums.  She focuses her painting time on work she is most passionate about and is true to her spirit.
