we're all kinds of creative
Margaret Wailes
As a child, vacationing with my parents, I often sat with my father in the evening, sketching. When my father retired, he pursued his interest in art and became an accomplished artist. It was not until I retired from University teaching that I followed my passion and resumed sketching and painting.
For the past eighteen years, I have spent summers in Prince Edward Island. In 2000, while browsing through the Graphic, I came across an invitation to join Sandi Komst in watercolour painting classes at the MacPhail Homestead – “no experience or materials necessary”. That first class awakened a long dormant long-dormant passion for painting. I have continued to study and paint with Sandi, Brian Atyeo, Ron Savage, Linda Kemp, Kai-Lis McGinnis, Mel Stabin and Stephen Quiller in summer workshops, and painted en plein air with several dedicated and accomplished Island artists.
In Concord, Massachusetts, in the winters, I have continued taking drawing, watercolour and acrylic painting classes with Margaret Savage, Nancy Howell, Lynette Haggard, Phyllis Hughes, Maris Plaitas, and Paul George.
On Prince Edward Island, I have exhibited and sold paintings at the Georgetown Inn, The Dunes, Howes Gallery, The Dancing Starfish, and the Coleville Gallery, as well as Artisans on Main. I continue to exhibit paintings in Concord and I have been the director of Trinity Art Gallery since 2006.
