JOOMCHI !

I've just returned from a 7 day workshop at Haystack School of Crafts in Deer Isle Maine. The class was teaching the art of Joomchi, a Korean technique of paper manipulation using Hanji, a Mulberry Bark paper.

The Korean people have applied the Joomchi technique to soften and strengthen these papers to create cloth which is then fashioned into clothing.

Another extraordinary use for Hanji papers is spinning it into string and creating vessels, baskets, sachels and sculptures

Looking forward to bringing this technique to Artisans on Main Gallery and Workshops on the Water in 2017
